I hope this finds you and your families safe. There are no words to describe the devastation that our community is currently going through. Due to the unsafe conditions and to allow us all to focus on the clean-up efforts, the summer meal program, all summer school, band lessons, drivers education, athletic activities (games, practices, lessons, open gyms, camps, etc) will be canceled for the remainder of this week. We will reassess later this week for the coming week(s). Again, I hope you are all safe. Spencer is strong, and in the days and weeks ahead we will get through this together.

Dear Families and Staff, I am writing to address some concerns that have been expressed about the bleacher reconfiguration project in the Spencer High School gym. I want to extend my sincerest apologies for the mistakes that have been made during this process, which have understandably raised questions and concerns. Over the past three years, our objective has been to improve safety and comfort for athletes, students, and fans during events through a more spacious environment. Adjustments were made, removing five rows of bleachers on one side and three on the other. However, upon completion, it became evident that the final result did not meet the standards we had envisioned. The stairway positioning and other aspects of the project fell short of our expectations. For this, we take full responsibility. We acknowledge the need for better collaboration during the entire process. We are actively addressing this by restoring the bleachers on the east side and collaborating with contractors to find a better solution for this project, although a specific completion timeline is not yet set. Despite this setback, we encourage your continued support for our Tigers, beginning with the upcoming girls' basketball games on Saturday. Your encouragement means a great deal to our student-athletes and our entire school community. Ensuring safety and satisfaction for everyone who competes and attends events in our gym remains our priority. Thank you for your patience as we work to resolve these issues, and please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions. Sincerely, Terry Hemann Superintendent

The 5th and 6th grade Challenge students prepared ‘passion research projects’ for the Lakeland Talented and Gifted program, Products Convention Fair. Around 100 - 3rd through 6th grade students from around northwest Iowa converged at Cutty's Resort Club in Spirit Lake. Students displayed a range of projects. We learned about combustion engines, Chris Madsen, zodiac signs, the nuclear frontier, chess, and refugees from our 6th graders. Projects by our 5th graders were black holes in space, how the moon affects ocean tides, nuclear energy, the life cycle of stars, the emerald ash borer, how eclipses affect nature, hiccups, the Arab-Israeli wars, and the Bobolinks.

2023 Little Tiger Relays will be held Tuesday May 16th at Dale Norton Field, located just SE of the HS. We have set aside May 18th as the rain date. We have decided to keep with our schedule from last year and separate 5th and 6th grade. 5th grade will have their event from 9-11AM that morning and will return to school for lunch and a regular after- noon. 6th grade will be from 1:30-3:30PM and be dismissed from the event upon completion. There will not be a bus bringing them back to the Middle School, so they will have to find their own ride home.
